Hydrogen Valley Project Launched in Bradford-Humber Region with €20m EU Funding
The Lighter than Aire (LtA) project has officially launched, aiming to establish a large-scale hydrogen transport hub in the UK. This initiative seeks to produce over 4,500 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, targeting key sectors like logistics and construction to drive decarbonization and support regional economic transformation.

The Lighter than Aire (LtA) project, launched in March 2026 with €20m ($22.9m) EU funding, aims to create a hydrogen transport hub in the Bradford-Humber region. It plans to generate over 4,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually and deploy more than 150 hydrogen vehicles, contributing to the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors.
The project, coordinated by HydraB, includes partners such as Toyota and Wrightbus and will address technological, financial, and regulatory barriers to hydrogen adoption. Lessons from existing hydrogen valleys will inform the project's implementation, fostering a replicable model for broader UK and European applications. Key challenges include the high costs of hydrogen mobility and the need for robust refueling infrastructure, which may impact the project's scalability.
