India Advances Training of 85,000 Semiconductor Engineers Under Chips to Startups Initiative
India is progressing towards its goal of training 85,000 semiconductor engineers through the Chips to Startups initiative. In 315 institutions nationwide, students gain hands-on experience in semiconductor design, fabrication, and testing using world-class EDA tools from companies like Synopsys and Siemens. The initiative has recorded over 1.85 crore hours of EDA tool usage. With the semiconductor market expected to grow to USD 2 trillion, India plans to expand the program to 500 institutions to build a skilled workforce.

India's Chips to Startups initiative aims to train 85,000 semiconductor engineers, with students from 315 academic institutions nationwide engaging in semiconductor design, fabrication, packaging, and testing. World-class EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens, and others are utilized for practical training, resulting in over 1.85 crore hours of usage.
The initiative, part of the India Semiconductor Mission, seeks to meet the growing demand for nearly 2 million skilled professionals as the semiconductor industry expands to USD 2 trillion. Plans to increase participating institutions from 315 to 500 will further enhance talent development and self-reliance in the semiconductor sector.
