India Aims to Increase Nuclear Energy Share to 10-15% by 2025, Says Former Security Adviser

M.K. Narayanan, former National Security Adviser to India, emphasized the need to boost nuclear energy's share in India's energy mix from 3-4% to 10-15% at FICCI's TANENERGY SUMMIT 2025. He highlighted the advantages gained from the 2008 India-US nuclear deal, access to uranium, indigenous thorium resources, and the development of modular nuclear reactors, suggesting a potential nuclear renaissance.

Narayanan stressed that India's civil nuclear program is a vital asset for power generation, despite the challenges of nuclear security. A. Sivathanu Pillai, former Chief Controller (R&D) at ISRO, advocated for deploying technologies for methane reduction, CO₂-to-methanol conversion, and zero-emission power plants to support Tamil Nadu's growth vision.
