India Enhances Drone and Anti-Drone Capabilities Amid Regional Security Threats
India's Northeast region is evolving into a critical drone-satcom battleground, prompting enhanced anti-drone measures. The arrest of seven foreign nationals for terrorism-related activities highlights the growing external threats posed by insurgent groups using advanced drone technologies.

The Indian armed forces are augmenting their counter-drone capabilities with advanced technologies, including both soft-kill and hard-kill methods for drone neutralization, such as directed-energy weapons. Following the apprehension of seven foreign nationals linked to terrorist activities, the NIA has emphasized the illegal drone importation for insurgent groups.
New signal-interception systems, including the SAKSHAM and Akashteer air-defense systems, have been deployed. The development of tethered drones, enhanced by the Starlink Mini terminal, presents a significant advantage in hostile environments, offering superior endurance and signal reliability. As external actors influence regional security dynamics, India must enhance its counter-terror and jungle-warfare preparedness to effectively respond to the evolving landscape.
