India Targets Domestic Manufacturing in Solar and Hydrogen Sectors to Reduce Imports
India is enhancing local production of solar, green hydrogen, and wind energy components to mitigate reliance on imports. Key items for local manufacturing include solar inverters, bipolar plates, and polysilicon, which are critical for the renewable energy supply chain.

India's government is prioritizing the domestic manufacturing of components such as solar inverters, bipolar plates, and polysilicon to reduce import dependence in the renewable energy sector. Six working groups have been established to identify 100 products aimed at promoting local production.
The focus includes critical items that currently rely heavily on imports, with polysilicon being entirely sourced from abroad. Current domestic capacity includes 225 GW for solar modules and 30 GW for solar cells. The initiative aims to strengthen supply chains and enhance competitiveness while addressing vulnerabilities associated with import dependencies.
