India Targets Indigenous AI Chip Development by 2030
India aims to develop an indigenous AI inference chip similar to Nvidia's, with a production-grade version expected by 2030. The initiative, led by C-DAC, is part of a larger ₹1.27 trillion semiconductor mission to enhance domestic chip capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

India is set to produce its first indigenous AI inference chip, targeted for completion by 2029 or 2030, as announced by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is collaborating with HCL Infosystems for design validation of the chip, which is currently in trial production.
This project falls under the ₹1.27 trillion Semicon 2.0 mission, aiming to boost local semiconductor production and promote ownership of chip patents. C-DAC, established in 1988, will also oversee the design-linked incentive scheme. This initiative could enhance India's positioning in the global semiconductor supply chain and reduce vulnerability to US export controls.
