Indian Armed Forces to Utilize 46,000 Acres of Defence Land for Green Energy Projects

BIOFUELSCARBON CAPTURE

The Indian Armed Forces plan to optimize 46,000 acres of unutilized defence land for green energy initiatives over the next three to five years. Potential projects include solar and biogas plants, afforestation, and floriculture for carbon credits.

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Green will collaborate on some initiatives, with other public sector undertakings (PSUs) potentially involved. A consultant has been engaged to assess feasible options, and the first pilot project will establish a solar plant in a specified state with NTPC Green.

A detailed project report is being drafted. Future projects will follow under agreements with NTPC and other PSUs, focusing on environmental sustainability without creating permanent infrastructure. Revenue generated may enhance Defence Forces' infrastructure, pending feasibility study results.
