Indian-Origin Scientist Deep Jariwala Appointed Governor's Chair for Quantum Devices
Deep Jariwala has been appointed as the Governor's Chair for Quantum Devices at the University of Tennessee, effective January 2027. His company, Agni Semiconductor, focuses on developing advanced memory chips for AI applications, addressing hardware limitations in extreme environments.

Deep Jariwala, co-founder of Agni Semiconductor, will commence his role as Governor's Chair for Quantum Devices at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in January 2027. His startup specializes in semiconductor products for AI hardware and harsh environments, leveraging his research on ferroelectric memory devices, including a notable configuration based on aluminium scandium nitride (AlScN).
Jariwala's academic journey began at IIT-BHU, leading to significant contributions in quantum materials and advanced computing technologies. His transition to the US academic culture and subsequent green card status facilitated his research ambitions. This new role may enhance collaboration between academia and national labs, impacting the future of quantum materials and microelectronics research.
