India's Government Accelerates Green Hydrogen Development Under National Green Hydrogen Mission
The Government of India is advancing green hydrogen initiatives through production allocations, incentives for electrolyser manufacturing, and demand creation in fertilizers and refineries. The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to position India as a global leader in green hydrogen production and use, with significant capacity awards to various companies and projects supporting the clean energy transition.

The Government of India is implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) to establish India as a global hub for green hydrogen production. It has awarded 3000 MW electrolyser manufacturing capacity to 15 companies and 862,000 MTPA of green hydrogen production capacity to 18 companies.
Demand aggregation initiatives include 724,000 MTPA of green ammonia for 13 fertilizer units and 20,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen supply for major refineries. Five pilot projects are planned for hydrogen use in steel, along with development of a bunkering facility for green methanol and hydrogen-fueled vehicles. The government is also expanding the city gas distribution network and promoting bio-CNG.
