Indonesia and Malaysia Explore Collaboration in Semiconductor Technology Development

Indonesia is seeking to partner with Malaysia in advancing semiconductor technology, as stated by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at the 2026 Indonesia Economic Summit. Hartarto noted Malaysia's established semiconductor industry experience and emphasized the open market for new-generation semiconductors, which presents collaboration opportunities.

The partnership aims to enhance human resource capacity and boost domestic industrial capabilities. Current initiatives include developing a startup ecosystem, industrial transformation, and chip production for digital automotive and electronics sectors. The cooperation is expected to facilitate knowledge transfer, strengthen supply chains, and increase industrial value-added for Indonesia.
