Infineon Engages in Three European Quantum Pilot Lines Under Chips for Europe Initiative
Infineon participates in three pilot lines for quantum technology in Europe, aiming to bolster regional semiconductor sovereignty. These efforts are crucial for transitioning foundational research into industrial capabilities and addressing competition from the U.S. and China.

Infineon has joined three out of six selected quantum pilot lines under the Chips for Europe Initiative, focusing on ion traps, superconducting qubits, and silicon-based qubits. This participation reflects a multi-platform technological strategy aimed at fostering sovereign semiconductor production in Europe, with a timeline of seven years for project completion, co-funded by the EU and member states.
The pilot lines enable shared industrial access for startups and SMEs, critical for developing Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) essential for quantum computing. The success of these projects hinges on operational milestones, including a 200-qubit module and the integration of established semiconductor processes, which must be demonstrated to secure Europe's position in the global quantum market projected to reach $97 billion by 2035.
