Innovative RuP₂-Ni₂P/NPC Catalyst Enhances Hydrogen Evolution Efficiency
The RuP₂-Ni₂P/NPC catalyst shows overpotentials of 3 mV and 17.3 mV in alkaline and acidic conditions, respectively, outperforming platinum. Its stability over extended operation periods positions it as a viable alternative for industrial hydrogen production.

The RuP₂-Ni₂P/NPC catalyst exhibits low overpotentials of 3 mV in alkaline environments and 17.3 mV in acidic conditions, significantly improving efficiency over platinum catalysts. It maintains performance for over 500 hours in alkaline and over 300 hours in acidic media at a current density of 100 mA cm⁻².
This design is crucial for reducing reliance on precious metals, enhancing the feasibility of non-platinum catalysts for hydrogen production. Potential applications include large-scale hydrogen production facilities and distributed electrolyzers. The design strategy may lead to advancements in other energy conversion technologies.
