Intel Repurchases 49% Stake in Ireland Fab Joint Venture for $14.2 Billion
Intel has finalized a $14.2 billion agreement to repurchase a 49% equity interest in its Ireland Fab 34 joint venture from Apollo. This move strengthens Intel's control over critical manufacturing capabilities amidst growing demand for CPUs in AI applications.

Intel Corporation has announced an agreement to repurchase a 49% stake in its joint venture related to Fab 34 in Ireland for $14.2 billion. The buyback, funded through cash reserves and approximately $6.5 billion in new debt, is expected to enhance Intel's operational flexibility and positively impact earnings per share.
The original stake was acquired by Apollo-managed funds for $11.2 billion in 2024 to provide Intel with financial flexibility. This transaction underscores Intel's strategy to increase control over its manufacturing capacity as global semiconductor demand evolves, particularly in the AI sector. The move is indicative of a broader industry trend toward direct ownership of manufacturing assets, positioning Intel to meet rising demands for advanced chip technologies.
