The Invercargill City Council confirmed that the steel for the Te Unua Museum of Southland was sourced from various suppliers using electric-arc furnace technology and recycled materials. This includes reinforcing steel from Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore, rather than Indonesia as previously stated.
The museum is pursuing provisional Green Star certification, positioning it to potentially be the first museum in New Zealand to achieve this status. Efforts to ensure sustainability encompass material selection and indoor environmental quality, according to senior project manager Haydyn Taylor.
