Iroko Africa Partners with GDC for Geothermal Steam Commercialization in Kenya
Iroko Africa has partnered with the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) to commercialize geothermal steam for industrial applications in Kenya, focusing on feasibility studies at the Menengai wells in Nakuru. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy costs for manufacturers, while the Menengai Geothermal-Powered Industrial Park seeks to enhance job creation and promote green industrialization in the region. GDC's direct-use technology has been successfully implemented in various projects since 2015, aligning with Kenya's goal of achieving 5 GW of geothermal capacity by 2030.

Iroko Africa has partnered with the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) to explore commercialization of geothermal steam for industrial use. The collaboration will involve feasibility studies at the Menengai wells in Nakuru, focusing on the direct use of steam for industrial heating, which is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy costs for manufacturers.
GDC has previously signed a 25-year agreement with Karsan Ramji and Sons Limited to supply steam for cement production. The Menengai Geothermal-Powered Industrial Park aims to create jobs and establish Nakuru County as a key player in green industrialization.
GDC's direct-use technology has been demonstrated since 2015, with projects like steam-heated greenhouses and milk pasteurization facilities. Kenya aims for 5 GW of geothermal capacity by 2030, positioning geothermal energy as a cost-effective alternative to fossil fuels.
