The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) broke ground on its Advanced Semiconductor R&D Base in Hsinchu County, Taiwan, with an investment of NT$3.772 billion (US$119.57 million), expected to be completed by December 2027 and begin phased operations in Q1 2028. TSMC has contributed tools and expertise for the project.

The facility will focus on innovation trial production, advanced semiconductor manufacturing process development, and equipment verification, aiming to reduce product development timelines by 30%. Construction costs include NT$688 million for the building and NT$3.084 billion for cleanroom facilities.
