Jagiroad to Transform into Rs 27,000 Crore Semiconductor Hub by 2026
The redevelopment of Jagiroad, previously a paper mill town, into a semiconductor manufacturing hub reflects significant industrial investment. Tata Electronics is set to invest Rs 27,000 crore, creating approximately 29,000 jobs and boosting the local economy.

Tata Electronics plans to invest Rs 27,000 crore in a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Jagiroad, aimed for completion by 2026. This project will repurpose the site of the Nagaon Paper Mill, which closed in 2015-16, leaving the area economically stagnant.
The initiative is part of Assam's broader strategy to establish a high-tech industrial ecosystem, including technology parks and modern townships. The semiconductor sector is projected to contribute significantly to India's chip production, with facilities expected to produce nearly 75-80 million chips daily. The development is crucial for local employment and economic recovery ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections.
