Japan Government Invests Additional Funds in Rapidus Semiconductor Initiative
Japan's government has allocated an extra ¥150 billion ($960 million) to Rapidus for semiconductor production. This investment aims to support mass production of 2nm chips and advance R&D for 1.4nm technology, critical for enhancing domestic semiconductor capabilities.

The Japanese government has announced an additional investment of ¥150 billion ($960 million) in Rapidus, aimed at bolstering the production of 2-nanometre semiconductors and developing 1.4nm technology. This follows a previous allocation of ¥100 billion for fiscal year 2025-26, bringing total government funding to ¥250 billion.
Future financial plans include subsidies of ¥631.5 billion for fiscal year 2026-27 and approximately ¥300 billion for 2027-28. Rapidus targets to begin mass production of 2nm chips by fiscal year 2027-28 and advanced packaging by 2028-29, emphasizing the company's need for additional private financing of around ¥3 trillion. The initiative is part of Japan's strategy to enhance domestic semiconductor production, crucial for economic security.
