Jiaxing Port Zone Advances Hydrogen Shipping with Successful Vessel Test
The Jiaxing port zone in China has tested the country's first inland hydrogen fuel cell powered container ship, the Dongfang Qinggang, completing an 83.7 km voyage to Hangzhou's Xiasha port. The 64 TEU vessel, built as a 2,000 ton class ship and launched in December 2025, aims to transition to commercial service following the successful trial designed to assess range, power stability, and hydrogen consumption.

Jiaxing port zone in China has progressed towards commercial hydrogen shipping with the successful test of the Dongfang Qinggang, the nation's first inland hydrogen fuel cell powered container vessel. The ship completed an 83.7 km journey to Hangzhou's Xiasha port, demonstrating capabilities in range, power stability, and hydrogen consumption.
Built as a 2,000 ton class vessel, it features two Guohong hydrogen fuel cell systems, a hydrogen storage capacity of 550 kg, and a range over 380 km. This test follows a new hydrogen application pilot notice from Beijing supporting local industrial hydrogen use.
