Jungheung Group Founder Jung Chang-sun Dies at 84, Leaving Legacy in Construction and Philanthropy
Jung Chang-sun, founder and chairman of Jungheung Group, passed away at 84. He transformed the company from a regional builder in South Korea into a top 20 business group, marked by the acquisition of Daewoo Engineering & Construction in 2022.
Jung began his career in construction at 19 and founded Geumnam Housing Construction in 1983, later establishing Jungheung Construction. His cautious growth strategy and strict financial discipline led to the successful launch of the Jungheung S-Class apartment brand in the 2000s and substantial housing developments in Sejong from 2012 to 2016.
Jung aimed to elevate Jungheung into Korea's top corporate ranks, achieving this with the Daewoo acquisition, making it the third-largest construction group in the nation. He focused on social responsibility and philanthropy, donating over $21 million to KAIST for semiconductor research and promoting cooperative business practices.
