Kansas City Upgrades Blue River Biosolids Treatment Plant
Kansas City's upgraded Blue River biosolids treatment plant utilizes advanced thermal hydrolysis technology. This facility enhances wastewater processing efficiency and supports sustainable resource management, becoming one of only nine such plants in the U.S.
The Blue River biosolids treatment plant in Kansas City has been upgraded to include advanced thermal hydrolysis (THP) technology, enhancing its capacity to treat wastewater solids. This facility processes an average of 75 million gallons daily, handling nearly 98% of the city's wastewater solids while producing high-quality Class A biosolids and renewable biogas.
The modernization aims to meet future wastewater treatment demands with reduced environmental impact. KC Water collaborates with Spire Energy to utilize the generated biogas for local energy. The plant exemplifies a commitment to sustainable resource management, transforming waste into valuable products.
