Karnataka Unveils ESDM Policy to Boost Electronics and Semiconductor Growth
Karnataka's new Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) policy aims to establish the state as a global electronics hub by 2030. The framework includes significant support for startups and large-scale investments, with incentives for job creation and local sourcing.

Karnataka's ESDM policy, covering 2023-2030, seeks to position the state as a global electronics hub, aiming to enhance local innovation and reduce reliance on imports. The Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) will implement two main initiatives: a broad ESDM policy for small businesses and a Special Incentive Scheme (SIS) for large-scale investments, requiring at least ₹150 million in new facilities.
Support measures include R&D grants up to ₹20 million and patent-related reimbursements. Additionally, the state is investing in infrastructure like the Semiconductor Future Accelerator Lab for fabless startups and the Lahari Advanced Electronics Test Facility for product testing. A dedicated semiconductor policy is also in development to further enhance semiconductor design and manufacturing capabilities.
