Keenan Recycling Launches UK's First OEM Electric Food Waste Truck in Glasgow
Keenan Recycling has launched one of the UK's first OEM electric food waste collection trucks, a Renault Trucks D18, to enhance fleet decarbonisation. The 20-tonne vehicle, featuring a Macpac 110 body, operates with zero exhaust emissions and has a range of 180km. The project received £90,000 funding from Scottish Enterprise, contributing to Keenan's Net Zero strategy and expanding its low-emission fleet.

Keenan Recycling has introduced one of the UK's first OEM electric food waste trucks, a 20-tonne Renault Trucks D18 equipped with a Macpac 110 body, aimed at decarbonising waste collection in Glasgow and the Central Belt. The vehicle utilizes four 94kWh batteries, providing a range of nearly 180km, with zero tailpipe emissions.
The project was financed with a £460,000 investment, including a £90,000 grant from Scottish Enterprise. Collaboration among Keenan Recycling, Biffa, Renault Trucks, and Macpac was vital for its development. This vehicle is part of Keenan's commitment to a low-carbon fleet, which includes biofuel, CNG, and hydrogen-ready vehicles.
