Kenya has awarded a joint venture of Power Grid Corp of India Limited (PGCIL) and Africa50 a $311 million contract to expand its transmission network. The project involves the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of two high-voltage transmission lines to improve electricity supply in western and northern Kenya.
This agreement follows the cancellation of a $736 million transmission project and a $1.85 billion airport modernization project in November 2024. As part of Vision 2030, Kenya is modernizing infrastructure, and Indian companies are increasingly active in various sectors. India is Kenya's third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade at $3.5 billion and nearly 200 Indian firms operating in the country.
