Key Changes in Indian Railways for FY27: Policies and Innovations
Indian Railways is set to implement significant changes in FY27, including revised ticket cancellation policies, the introduction of Hydrogen trains, and the rollout of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. These initiatives aim to enhance passenger experience and improve connectivity across the country.

In FY27, Indian Railways will revise its ticket cancellation policy, granting no refunds for cancellations less than 8 hours before departure. Refunds will be 25% for cancellations between 72 and 24 hours and 50% for those between 24 and 8 hours, with implementation by April 15, 2026.
Additionally, passengers can cancel tickets from any station and upgrade their travel class up to 30 minutes before departure. The Ministry will introduce two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains on the Howrah-Kamakhya route, with plans for 12 such trains this year.
Kinet Railway Solutions will unveil the first Hydrogen train prototype by June 2026, moving towards the launch of the world’s most powerful Hydrogen Trainset. Moreover, the Ministry aims for 100% electrification of its broad gauge network, currently at 99.2%. These developments are likely to enhance operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction.
