KFOR Partners Establish K-9 MEDEVAC Procedures for Working Dogs in Kosovo
Multinational forces have initiated K-9 medical evacuation training in Kosovo on March 17, 2026, to improve protocols for transporting military working dogs. This training aims to enhance the efficiency of veterinary care and evacuation processes for working dogs across KFOR operations.

On March 17, 2026, multinational forces under KFOR Regional Command-East and West conducted K-9 medical evacuation training in Kosovo. This initiative involved U.S. Army Reserve veterinary personnel, Italian Army K-9 handlers, and aviation elements from the Tennessee Army National Guard.
The goal is to establish effective procedures for transporting injured military working dogs to surgical care. Training sessions included route familiarization exercises and emphasized the importance of quick coordination between veterinarians, handlers, and aviation units.
Due to geographical challenges and the distribution of working dogs, ensuring rapid medical intervention is crucial for operational readiness. The training supports an existing U.S.-Italian agreement to enhance veterinary support and formalizes a standard operating procedure currently under review.
