Kilkenny Council Recommends Refusal of Ballyfasy Wind Farm Development
Kilkenny County Council has recommended that An Coimisiún Pleanála refuse planning permission for the Ballyfasy Wind Farm in South Kilkenny, citing concerns over landscape visual impact and insufficient information. The project, comprising 10 wind turbines with a capacity of 57-72 MW, must be decided by the planning authority due to its classification as Strategic Infrastructure Development. The council's decision follows a special meeting where local councillors expressed opposition based on potential impacts on residents and the existing concentration of wind turbines in the area.

Kilkenny County Council recommended that An Coimisiún Pleanála refuse planning permission for the Ballyfasy Wind Farm in South Kilkenny. The project involves 10 wind turbines with a total capacity between 57 MW and 72 MW, along with a 110kV substation.
Council planner Niall Sheehan highlighted significant landscape visual impact and shadow flicker concerns affecting nearby residences. Councillors proposed total rejection of the project, emphasizing the existing concentration of turbines and the need for fair development. The final decision will be made by An Coimisiún Pleanála by July.
