Kishan Reddy Calls for Telangana to Secure 2,400 MW from NTPC Ramagundam Project
Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has urged Telangana to finalize power purchase agreements with NTPC for 2,400 MW from the Ramagundam project. He emphasized the need for adequate coal supplies to support the project's 4,000 MW capacity. Telangana could receive 85% of the total generation, with a projected peak power demand of 1 lakh MW by 2047. Reddy highlighted the necessity of 5,000-6,000 MW of additional thermal power to stabilize the grid.

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has requested the Telangana government to enter into power purchase agreements with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for 2,400 MW from the NTPC thermal power project in Ramagundam. This follows the inauguration of the first phase, which provided 1,600 MW in 2023.
Reddy noted that Telangana might receive up to 85% of the total 4,000 MW from both phases. He mentioned a peak power demand of 18,139 MW and a projected increase to 1 lakh MW by 2047. To stabilize the power grid, an additional 5,000-6,000 MW of thermal power is necessary.
