KLM Advocates for National Investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuels in the Netherlands

KLM has called for significant investments in innovative technologies in the Netherlands, particularly in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). A report commissioned by the Dutch economic affairs ministry estimates that €151 billion to €187 billion ($177 billion to $219 billion) is needed, primarily from the private sector, to address under-investment in new sectors.

KLM supports the establishment of a national SAF fund to accelerate production and affordability of alternative aviation fuels. The airline highlighted the importance of aviation to the Dutch economy and urged policymakers to invest in a sustainable aviation sector rather than impose restrictions.

KLM is actively investing in cleaner operations and has commitments to blend more SAF than mandated. To achieve a 14% SAF blend in the Netherlands by 2030, affordability and availability of alternative fuels must improve, supported by government investment. KLM proposed funding the SAF initiative through existing aviation tax revenues.
