Korea-EU and Trilateral US-Japan-Korea Industrial Cooperation Initiatives
Korea is enhancing cooperation with the EU in innovation and technology, particularly in AI and semiconductor sectors. Concurrently, a proposed trilateral alliance with the US and Japan aims to bolster industrial resilience amidst global supply chain disruptions.
The Republic of Korea (ROK) is deepening ties with the European Union (EU) through enhanced collaboration in research and innovation, particularly in AI and semiconductors. Korea's association with Horizon Europe, effective July 2025, marks its status as the first Asian full associate member, facilitating joint efforts in advanced technologies.
Concurrently, a sixth Korea-U.S. Industrial Cooperation Conference emphasized a trilateral alliance with Japan to foster resilience in industries like AI and energy, advocating for shared R&D infrastructure and joint investments in energy security.
Experts suggest creating platforms for energy-efficient AI computing and fast-track frameworks for small modular reactors (SMRs). This strategic cooperation aims to navigate challenges posed by geopolitical tensions and supply chain vulnerabilities.
