Lagos State Government has launched collection kiosks for used cooking oil to promote environmental protection and public health, targeting a $20 million biofuel market. The initiative, in partnership with Ororo Waste Management and supported by the Shell Foundation, aims to establish Lagos in the global biofuel supply chain.
Residents can earn rewards for depositing used oil, which addresses health risks and pollution from improper disposal. Lagos is positioned to contribute significantly to Nigeria's used cooking oil supply, with a goal to become the third-largest supplier globally within a year. The program encourages voluntary compliance through economic incentives and promotes a circular economy.
