Land Issues Stall GAIL's CBG Project in Belagavi
GAIL's compressed biogas project in Belagavi faces delays due to land opposition. The Rs 54.2 crore initiative under the Gobardhan scheme is critical for sustainable waste management but remains unapproved as new sites are sought.

The compressed biogas project awarded to GAIL, valued at Rs 54.2 crore, is experiencing significant delays due to land-related opposition in Belagavi. Initially planned for a waste management site in Turmuri, the project has faced public resistance, leading to the withdrawal of two proposed locations.
The Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) has now identified a new site and is seeking approval from the urban development department. The project aims to process 150 tonnes of wet waste daily, converting it into biogas and agricultural by-products without financial impact on the city.
GAIL will cover all costs, including Rs 7.7 crore annually for operations. The project remains crucial for enhancing the city's waste management capabilities.
