Launch of RFAS Aviation for SAF Verification in the UK
Zemo Partnership has launched RFAS Aviation, a voluntary assurance scheme for independent verification of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the UK. This initiative addresses the need for a standardized approach to SAF traceability, aiding compliance with the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

RFAS Aviation, introduced by Zemo Partnership, aims to provide independent verification for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across the UK's supply chain. This scheme addresses inconsistencies in verifying SAF traceability, which has affected airline operators' ability to demonstrate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions under the UK ETS.
Built on the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme, RFAS Aviation includes a standardized SAF Declaration to ensure fuel suppliers can offer verified data on SAF production pathways and lifecycle emissions. The initiative is crucial as the UK mandates an increase in SAF supply, emphasizing the need for credible sustainability reporting in the sector, while preventing cross-market attribution of aviation claims. This framework supports the aviation industry's transition toward net zero.
