Legal Action Against Phnom Penh Factory for Ammonia Emissions
The Ministry of Environment in Cambodia has initiated legal proceedings against Chheng Sopheary Ice Factory for exceeding ammonia emission limits, posing health risks to local residents. This action is part of broader efforts to combat air pollution during the dry season.

The Cambodian Ministry of Environment is pursuing legal action against the Chheng Sopheary Ice Factory following an ammonia gas leak that exceeded acceptable levels, recorded at 1.0 mg/m³ against a standard limit of 0.2 mg/m³. The factory has been ordered to implement monitoring systems and obtain indoor air quality certification to align with national standards.
Concurrently, provincial authorities are enhancing measures to mitigate air pollution from various sources, including industrial emissions, and have mandated that all factories install proper emission control systems. Non-compliance will result in immediate legal enforcement as per the Environmental and Natural Resources Code, reflecting the significant public health risks posed by air quality deterioration during the dry season.
