Leitrim Council Urged to Collaborate on Irish Central Border Area Network's Geothermal Energy Project
A Leitrim Councillor has urged the Local Authority to engage with the Irish Central Border Area Network regarding a cross-border geothermal energy demonstration project. Leitrim Councillor Eddie Mitchell has called for the Local Authority to collaborate with the Irish Central Border Area Network on a geothermal energy project aimed at local communities. Previous concerns regarding drilling into petroleum reserves were alleviated by a reassured statement from a chief government geologist. The proposal is advancing again, and the Councillor is requesting guarantees from both governments that geothermal activity will not be suggested in the Lough Allen Basin.
