Lufkin City Council Denies Oncor's Substation Permit Amid Resident Opposition
POWER GRIDS & TRANSMISSION
The Lufkin City Council voted 6-1 to deny Oncor Electric Delivery's request for a special use permit to build a replacement electrical substation on Brentwood Drive. This decision followed extensive testimony from residents and utility representatives, aligning with neighborhood opposition.
The denial stems from written protests by property owners representing over 20% of the land within 200 feet of the site, which required a supermajority approval. The Planning & Zoning Commission had also unanimously recommended denial. The council previously postponed the decision to allow for further review and discussion.
