Luxembourg to Transform Industrial Sites into Residential Districts with Thousands of New Homes
Luxembourg is set to transform three former industrial sites into residential districts, adding thousands of new homes to address housing needs. The projects include 1,400 homes in Esch-sur-Alzette, 1,600 in Dudelange utilizing geothermal energy, and 1,085 in Wiltz, with a significant portion designated as affordable or rental housing. The developments aim to accommodate approximately 7,500 residents over the next decade.

Luxembourg plans to redevelop three former industrial sites into residential districts, aiming to provide thousands of new homes. In Esch-sur-Alzette, the 'Roud Lëns' site will feature 1,400 homes, with 439 designated as affordable housing, and first residents expected in 18 months.
Dudelange's 'NeiSchmelz' site is set for a 20-year redevelopment to offer 1,600 homes for about 3,600 inhabitants, utilizing geothermal energy for heating, with first occupants in four years. Wiltz’s 'Wunne mat der Wooltz' project will include 1,085 homes, 70% for rent, with the first phase completing by next summer and full completion expected within a decade, accommodating around 2,500 people. In a separate incident, 873,709 kilos of cocaine were seized at Findel Cargo Center in 2025.
