Maibarara Geothermal Inc. to Launch Deep Exploration Drilling Program Aiming to Expand Energy Capacity

GEOTHERMAL

Maibarara Geothermal Inc. is poised to embark on a significant deep exploration drilling program next year, aimed at tapping into an undrilled sector that has the potential to yield additional geothermal resources. This initiative was recently outlined to New Zealand Ambassador Catherine McIntosh during her visit to the Maibarara geothermal power plant in Batangas on September 8.

During the visit, Maibarara officials provided an overview of their operations, including a tour of the facilities that currently produce 32 megawatts of clean, baseload energy. The discussions highlighted the company's preparations for the ambitious drilling program set for 2026, which promises to enhance its geothermal capacity and contribute to the Philippines' growing clean energy supply.

Maibarara, a joint venture primarily owned by Petroenergy Resources Corp, with partners including ACEN Corp and PNOC Renewables Corp, has expressed gratitude for the invaluable support received from New Zealand firms, which have played a crucial role in the company's early success. President Francisco Delfin Jr. emphasized the importance of the technologies and expertise provided by New Zealand, stating that these contributions have equipped Maibarara to navigate the challenges inherent in geothermal development and operations.

The collaboration extends beyond technical support, as Delfin acknowledged the New Zealand government's role in providing human capital development assistance, which has benefited Filipino professionals in the geothermal sector. This partnership, rooted in shared goals and mutual learning, has fostered a commitment to community support and environmental stewardship.

Ambassador McIntosh reflected on the inspiring visit, noting the significance of Maibarara's journey enriched by New Zealand expertise. She recognized the dedication of the engineers trained under the Manaaki New Zealand scholarship program, who are now applying their skills locally, underscoring the deep and enduring geothermal partnership between the two nations. As both countries work together towards a cleaner energy future, the forthcoming drilling program stands as a testament to their collaborative efforts in enhancing geothermal capacity.
