Marcegaglia and Danieli have signed an agreement valued at approximately €450 million for a new steel production and rolling facility in Fos-sur-Mer, France. This initiative, known as the Mistral Project, is part of a larger €1 billion modernization plan, which aims to integrate upstream processes and stabilize the supply chain.
The new plant is projected to produce over 2 million tons of electric arc furnace steel and up to 3 million tons of hot-rolled coils annually, meeting 35% of Marcegaglia's total coil and slab demand. It emphasizes decarbonization through the use of low-emission materials, aiming for an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional methods. Final investment decisions are expected by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
