Margao Municipal Council Approved for Waste Gasification Trial in Goa
The Margao Municipal Council has received a six-month Consent to Operate for a 10-tonne waste gasification plant, aimed at treating municipal waste. The project, estimated at Rs 7.5 crore, is expected to alleviate waste accumulation issues in the city.

The Goa State Pollution Control Board has granted the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) a Consent to Operate for a 10-tonne gasification waste treatment facility, valid for six months. The plant is designed to process both dry and mixed waste, with an operational capacity of 3 tonnes per day of Refuse Derived Fuel and syngas production estimated at 300 kg daily.
The MMC has engaged a Pune-based agency to manage the plant for five years. This initiative aims to address ongoing waste management issues in Margao, where over two dozen garbage hotspots exist. The project follows previous attempts by the MMC to resolve waste management challenges, as the city currently sends 30 tonnes of wet waste daily to an external treatment facility.
