Masdar Expands Geothermal Investments in Indonesia's Renewable Energy Sector

GEOTHERMAL

Masdar, a UAE renewable energy company, aims to deepen investments in Indonesia's geothermal sector, recognizing its status as the second-largest producer globally. The partnership with Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), initiated in February 2023, is strategic due to PGE's technical capabilities.

The geothermal plants managed by PGE generate 4.8 TWh annually, preventing approximately 3.9 million tons of CO2 emissions. Masdar's collaboration with PGE and Indonesia Investment Authority supports its clean energy diversification strategy, contributing to Indonesia's target of 23% renewable energy mix by 2025 and net zero emissions by 2060.
