McConnell AFB Relocates Aircraft Ahead of Severe Weather Forecast
McConnell Air Force Base has relocated KC-46A Pegasus and KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft in anticipation of severe weather. This proactive measure underscores the significance of safeguarding valuable military assets, particularly as extreme weather events increase in frequency.

Ahead of forecasted severe weather, McConnell Air Force Base has moved its KC-46A Pegasus and KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft to other military installations. Crews from the 22 and 931 Air Refueling Wings are actively participating in this operation.
Additionally, aircraft under repair and ground support vehicles are secured in hangars. This marks the second relocation of aircraft due to weather conditions this year. The Air Force's procurement of 15 KC-46A Pegasus aircraft last year for $2.47 billion further emphasizes the importance of these assets.
The KC-135R Stratotankers, valued at $39.6 million each based on 1998 pricing, also remain critical to operations. Increased severe weather risks could lead to more frequent relocations in the future.
