MediaTek Launches Dimensity 8400 and CT-X1 for Satellite Communication and Automotive Computing
MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 8400 smartphone processor and the CT-X1 automotive chipset, marking its entry into satellite communications and automotive computing. The Dimensity 8400 enables two-way satellite calling in mid-range smartphones priced between $300 and $500. The CT-X1 platform, designed for Android Automotive, targets the growing automotive semiconductor market, projected to reach $117 billion by 2030. MediaTek aims to compete with Qualcomm in both sectors, leveraging its cost competitiveness and AI integration across products.

MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 8400 processor, which supports two-way satellite calling for mid-range smartphones, and the CT-X1 platform, its first chipset for Android Automotive OS. The Dimensity 8400, built on TSMC's 4nm process, targets smartphones retailing between $300 and $500, potentially expanding satellite connectivity to a larger user base.
The CT-X1 aims to power in-vehicle infotainment systems and enters the competitive automotive semiconductor market, which is projected to reach $117 billion by 2030. MediaTek is positioning itself against Qualcomm, which has a strong automotive pipeline exceeding $45 billion. Both products incorporate AI capabilities to enhance user experiences, while MediaTek seeks to diversify beyond the smartphone market to sustain revenue growth.
