The City of Medicine Hat will purchase excess electricity from Big Marble Farms' cogeneration generators following a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the new connection to the city's power grid. This development allows the province's largest greenhouse to sell surplus electricity generated from its 12-megawatt on-site system during off-peak hours.

The greenhouse expanded its capacity in 2020 and faced previous regulatory hurdles that prevented exporting electricity until legislative changes in 2024. The interconnection aims to strengthen local energy resilience and enable both parties to share energy efficiently.
