Mesa County Approves $100,000 Zero-Emission Transit Study for Grand Valley Transit
Mesa County Commissioners have approved a $100,000 study to evaluate the Grand Valley Transit system's transition to zero-emission vehicle technologies, with $90,000 of the funding coming from the Colorado Department of Transportation. The study will assess the current fleet's compliance with zero-emission criteria, explore renewable natural gas options, and analyze emerging technologies like battery-electric buses and hydrogen fuel cells. Managed by the Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office, the study aims to support future transit funding applications requiring a zero-emission transition plan.

On January 20, Mesa County Commissioners authorized a $100,000 technical study to evaluate the Grand Valley Transit system's transition to zero-emission vehicle technologies. The study, primarily funded by $90,000 from the Colorado Department of Transportation, aims to assess the current fleet's compliance with zero-emission criteria and explore options for expanding renewable natural gas use.
It will also analyze emerging technologies such as battery-electric buses and hydrogen fuel-cell options. The study will be managed by the Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office and is intended to support future applications for transit funding that require a zero-emission transition plan. No mandatory fleet changes or vehicle purchases will result from this study.
