Micron Technology will build a second manufacturing facility in Tongluo, Taiwan, after acquiring Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp's P5 site. This new facility, expected to be comparable in scale to the existing fab, aims to meet rising global demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) crucial for AI.
Construction is targeted to begin by the end of fiscal 2026, with the existing site supporting shipments starting in fiscal 2028. The expansion reflects Micron's strategy to enhance production capabilities in response to the growing AI memory market, amidst a broader industry trend towards increasing memory capacity.
