Microwave Power Products to Close Econco Facility, Discontinue Power Tube Repair Services
Microwave Power Products (MPP) will close the former Econco facility in California on September 1, 2026, ending its program for rebuilding power tubes used in vacuum tube broadcast transmitters. Repair services for Econco Power Grid tubes will be discontinued, with a deadline for purchases set for May 12, 2026.
Customers must confirm purchases or request the return of non-working tubes by this date, or MPP will dispose of the remaining property. Despite this closure, MPP will continue manufacturing new tubes and magnetrons at its Palo Alto site. Econco, founded in 1968, was acquired by Communications & Power Industries in 2004, and MPP spun off as an independent entity in June 2024.
