Morgan Sindall Construction has completed the Dixons Newall Green Academy project in Wythenshawe, Manchester, providing 750 places for students aged 11 to 16. An initial cohort of 140 Year 7 students began classes in temporary accommodations in September 2023, with additional intakes planned for 2024.
The project involved demolishing three school blocks, refurbishing one block, and constructing two new buildings: a two-storey classroom facility and a single-storey sports hall. The temporary units have been removed following the opening of the permanent structures.
Sustainability efforts included recycling flooring materials, using 63% Electric Arc Furnace steel, and donating surplus timber to a local skills program. Morgan Sindall worked closely with the Department for Education to ensure minimal disruption during construction, which included monitoring noise and vibrations to protect local residents.
