Musami School Develops Fertiliser from Biogas Slurry
St Paul's Musami Mission High School in Murehwa is turning biogas by-products into liquid organic fertilizer, enhancing sustainability. This initiative follows the installation of a 50-cubic-metre biogas digester aimed at reducing energy costs.

St Paul's Musami Mission High School is assessing the production of organic fertilizer from slurry produced by its biogas digester, which was installed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The digester, with a capacity of 50 cubic meters, primarily produces methane for cooking and water heating, but the nutrient-rich slurry presents a new opportunity for commercialisation.
The school aims to refine the product to eliminate odor and enhance market readiness. This initiative aligns with a broader trend toward sustainable practices in rural areas, with at least 26 biogas digesters established in Mashonaland East Province to promote clean energy adoption.
