Navy Engages Leidos and Defense Unicorns for Software Prototype Testing
The Navy has chosen Leidos and Defense Unicorns to test software-only container prototypes for ship updates, aiming to modernize application infrastructure. This initiative addresses connectivity challenges faced by deployed ships and seeks to enable remote software updates.

Leidos and Defense Unicorns have been selected by the Navy to test software-only container prototypes under an other transaction agreement. This marks the first contract under a new commercial solutions opening with the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic's Rapid Capabilities Cell, established in October.
The aim is to develop a container-native platform for improved cyber resiliency and reduced total cost of ownership. The prototype testing will take place in San Diego over two months, with potential for further shipboard testing and production contracts.
Currently, software updates require ships to dock for installations, which can take about a year to implement. The new system allows remote management of applications, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
